December, 2004

 Dear Friends,

    “Peace on earth, good will toward men”, “Joy to the world, the Lord hath come”, and “The most beautiful gifts of Christmas are found in the heart”.  These are among the many saying that express the joys of the Christmas season.

    The Pastor and members of the Boards of the Yaphank Presbyterian Church wish you a most joyous Christmas.  May you discover again the place where Christ was born in your life.  May the joy and peace this brings be yours in this holiday season and in the coming year.

    We also invite you to attend the various Christmas activities at the church.  We begin this Friday evening, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. with our annual Christmas Caroling visits to shut-ins and friends of the church.  The Christmas Pageant and Pot Luck Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, December 19th at 5:00 p.m.  The young people have been practicing long and hard for this annual festive event.

    Our Candlelight Christmas Eve Services on Friday, December 24th will be at 7:30 and 11:00 p.m.  Special music and the singing of Christmas Carols is a long time tradition of this service.  The church sanctuary is open for meditation and prayer 24/7.  If you can’t make one of the services, take the opportunity to stop by on Christmas Day or any time during the week.  Enjoy the beauty of the Christmas Tree, the Poinsettias, the candles and the greenery in the church.

    Increasingly in our society, Christmas has become a holiday cut off from its purpose of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.  If we as Christians are to properly celebrate this important Holy Season, we need to increase our Christmas awareness in our homes and at the church.  We urge you to say a prayer of thanks and a prayer for peace during your Christmas meal and to share with the children of your home and neighborhood the joys of the Christmas message.

    Our Board of Deacons are doing an outstanding job this Christmas in distributing food, clothing and toys to families in need in our community. If you know of any families that have needs, not only this Christmas Season, but throughout the year, please let us know.

    It is also appropriate at this time of year to remember the ministry of love, compassion and assistance of our church.  The enclosed envelope can be used for your special Christmas offering.

    Let us close this Christmas greeting with a few lines of the Christmas Carol, “Go Tell It on the Mountain”;

“Down in a lowly manger The humble Christ was born,

And God sent us salvation That blessed Christmas morn.

Go, tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and everywhere;

Go, tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!”

Best wishes for the Holiday Season!
